Radon

Radon is a cancer causing, radioactive gas found everywhere. You can't see radon, and you can’t smell it or taste it, but it still may be a major problem in your home.

Radon is a natural (radioactive) decomposition of uranium in rock and soil and gets into the air you breathe. In fact, radon is known to have caused thousands of deaths per year in the United States. According to the Surgeon General, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer falling behind cigarette smoke.

There is no way to tell if a home has high levels of radon unless a test is performed. Aranda Home Inspections offers a reliable radon measurement conducted by our licensed Radon Measurement Professional. Equipment used in our testing is ensured to measure accurately and provide reliable measurements.

FAQs About Radon

WHAT IS RADON?
Radon is an odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas that originates from soil and rocks. Radon enters a home through cracks and through a natural suction on the home. High levels of radon in a home can be a major health concern.

HOW IS RADON TESTED?
Aranda Home Inspections makes use of continuous radon monitors (CRM's). These monitors measure continuously for 48 hours and then display the averaged final result. A radon test is conducted for a minimum of 48 hours.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE RADON IN MY HOME?
Every home has radon. The levels of radon in your home determine if further actions are needed to resolve the problem. If high levels are found, a second measurement is conducted to confirm the results.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED A HIGH LEVEL?
The Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety has set the action level to 4.0 pci/l. Anything below this level is safe.

CAN HIGH LEVELS OF RADON BE FIXED?
Yes. If high levels of radon are found in your home a mitigation system is recommended to be installed. These systems are guaranteed to lower the amount of radon to a safe level.
